Mandatory Identity Verification – Effective from 18 November 2025
From 18 November 2025, Companies House will introduce a new requirement for all company directors, Persons with Significant Control (PSCs), and company members to complete identity verification.
This change is part of the wider reforms under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act and aims to strengthen business transparency and help tackle fraud across the UK.

ID verification becomes compulsory from 18 November 2025.
Approximately 7.4 million individuals will be required to complete the process.
The rollout will span 12 months, tied to the timing of your Confirmation Statement (CS01).
Failure to verify your identity will mean you cannot file your CS01—potentially resulting in penalties and even criminal consequences.
Who Needs to Verify Their Identity?
The new Companies House rules apply to several key individuals within a business. Those who must verify their identity include:
Company Directors
Anyone appointed as a director of a limited company.Persons with Significant Control (PSCs)
Individuals who hold more than 25% of shares or voting rights, or who otherwise have substantial influence or control over how the company operates.Company Members
This includes LLP members and others who are formally registered as members of a company structure.
